The Kittens' Iftar

The Kittens' Iftar

Once upon a time, there lived Mama Cat, Papa Cat, and their three kittens, Ginger, Tabby, and Calico.

As the sun set on the last day of Ramadan, Mama Cat prepared a delicious iftar meal for her family. She had spent the whole day in the kitchen, cooking up a storm.

The table was set with bowls of dates, a plate of samosas, and a pot of hot chicken soup. Mama Cat had also baked some sweet pastries for dessert.

Tabby Kitten couldn't wait for the others and put his paw in a bowl of cream.

Calico saw him. "No, no. What will Mama say if there are pawprints in the cream?"

"But it smells so good! I want to eat now," said Tabby.

"We have to be good, and help Mama," said Ginger. "Come on! Let's play tag until dinner."

So the three little kittens went outside to play. Finally the sun went down and the call to prayer echoed through the house. Tabby, Ginger, and Calico rushed to the table and gathered around their mama.

Papa Cat led the family in prayer, giving thanks for the blessings of Ramadan and for the delicious food that lay before them.

As they dug into the food, the kittens couldn't help but purr with delight. Tabby munched on sweet dates. Calico ate her favorite samosas. Ginger lapped up the chicken soup. And Mama Cat only smiled at the little pawprints in the cream.

As the night wore on, the kittens curled up next to their mama, their bellies full and their hearts content. "Mama," meowed Tabby, "please tell us a story."

So Mama Cat did...
